1984 Harmander Sahib Attack -
In early June 1984 Indian government forces attacked the Harminder Sahib
in Amritsar on the pretext of flushing out terrorists. The attack was
planned well in advance and was not a decision taken late in the day because
there was no other alternative. "During those three days more than

Although TADA lapsed in May 1995 after immense international pressure
from the organs of the United Nations and non-governmental organisations,
it has been given retroactive effect and people are still being charged

central Indian government approved a new ordinance, the Prevention of
Terrorism Ordinance (POTO), which gave the Indian police immense powers
